Barb (Whibbs) Nosella competed for York's women's basketball team from 1979-1982. During that time, she was named an OWIAA all-star in all three years she played and became York's first female basketball CIAU all-Canadian in 1980-81. York's female athlete of the year in 1980-81, Nosella was among the national leaders in points and rebounds per game. In her rookie season, she scored a team high 42 points in one game. She led York to the OWIAA title in 1981-82, just one year after the team moved into the OWIAA's first division.
