In three seasons with the York men's soccer team, Michael Burke was a three-time OUAA all-star, an all-Canadian in 1977 and one of the nation's most dominant strikers. In 1977, York dominated the OUAA, posting a 7-0-2 record with a league-best 27 goals for and nine goals against. At the 1977 CIAU championship tournament, Burke led York to a gold medal and was named to the tournament all-star team. He was consistently among the OUAA leaders in scoring and set a league record with seven goals in one game. In 1979, he was selected to represent Canada at the World University Games. Burke also represented Canada at the 1975 Pan-American games and Olympic qualifying matches in 1976 and 1980.
