Selected a member of the national gymnastics team in 1971, Sharon (Tsukamoto) Rutledge competed for Canada at the 1972 Munich Olympics A York gymnast for three seasons, she contributed to three consecutive OWIAA titles in 1972-73, 1973-74 and 1974-75 and was a member of CWIAU championship teams in both 1972-73 and 1973-74. Rutledge consistently placed in the top five in both provincial and national university championships. Her best performance was at the CWIAU finals in 1973-74, where she finished second all-around. Rutledge competed for Canada at the 1973 World Student Games in Moscow and at the 1974 World Championships in Varna, Bulgaria. She retired from active competition in 1975.
