Sometimes, the final score doesn't reflect game play. The RMC Paladins will head back to Kingston with a 3-0 loss to the York University Lions men's volleyball team Saturday evening at York, but the game was much more competitive than that.
Although all of the sets produced massive challenges, the Lions triumphed in all three, beating RMC 25-21 in the first set, 25-20 in the second, and a close 25-23 in the final set.
Josh Fadare produced a positive individual performance with 25 total attacks and 16 kills, while
Andrew Tauhid was a close second with eight kills and two aces. Both
Luke de Greeff and the team's setter
Jasraj Nijjar also contributed massively with 4 kills and 2 aces each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- York endured a tight one-to-two-point lead throughout the majority of the set as the Paladins put up a fight. However, de Greeff, Tauhid, Fadare made sure that the Lions' were still in it through a series of robust spikes over the net
- At the 18-18 point mark, RMC took their first lead in the game at 19-19. Nevertheless York were able to seize the victory when the Lions' libero William Deschamps made an important dig that Fadare then converted into a kill to make it 25-21 York.
- The second set started with RMC taking the lead twice, but the Lions made sure to keep their composure and get back in it as middle blocker Jordan Gazzola starred in a series of ace and blocks.
- The third set saw the Lions and Paladins battle all the way to a 22-22 tie. And ultimately, it was the brave Lions who came out on top, with Andrew Tauhid carrying out the final blow with a smashing spike into the center of the court.
As the second game of these back-to-back games conclude, the Lions now look forward to visiting another tough opponent, the Toronto Varsity Blues. The game will be held in Toronto on Thursday, Nov. 10, with the match set to start at 8 pm.
