RULES AND REGULATIONS

Intramural European Handball

The current York University Intramural Program rules shall apply with the following exceptions:

  • Games will be played by two teams with four players and a goaltender on the floor at all times. There must be a minimum of two players from each gender on the court at all times.
  • Teams may play with a minimum of a goaltender and three players provided there are at least two members from each gender.
  • Teams will default if they are not ready to play, ten minutes after the scheduled start time.
  • Substitutions may occur at any time.
  • All games will be played in the main gymnasium.
  • Net to be used will be the indoor hockey net.
  • Each net is surrounded by a goal crease. The outside of the goal crease is the penalty shot line.
  • Players may take no more than three steps with the ball.
  • Players may only hold the ball for three seconds.
  • Defense must remain at least three yards from the player receiving a penalty throw.
  • There is no shot clock but a turnover will occur if the referees feel that a player is not attempting to score.
  • Fouls:
    • Barging or head ducking
    • Elbowing or palming off
    • Swiping away defenders with arms or hands
    • Travelling
    • All fouls are turnovers
  • Major Fouls:
    • Purposely tripping, body checking, pushing, etc.
    • Unsportsmanlike conduct.
    • Fighting, intent to injure, travesty of the game.
    • All major fouls will result in elimination from the game with a review by the Recreation and Intramural Programs Officer.
