LAKERS COME BACK TO BEAT LIONS IN SHOOTOUT

The York University women's hockey team lost against the Nipissing Lakers 4-3 in penalty shootout on Saturday (Nov. 15) in North Bay, Ont. after the Lakers came back from a 3-0 loss in the third period.

Rianna Langford (Collingwood, Ont.) opened up the scoring in the third with a goal at 1:11, dominating the Lakers 3-0.

Hope was looking slim for the Lakers until seconds later, Brittany Crago snuck a goal past Lions goaltender Megan Lee (Orillia, Ont.) at 1:33. 

The Lakers continued to push forward with confidence as Kaley Tienhaara scored their second off of a power play at 17:17.

The Lakers were only behind one goal until Tienhaara came charging down the ice again to score another goal at 18:51, tying the score 3-3 and allowing the Lakers a chance in overtime.

The overtime ended scoreless and went right to penalty shootouts. 

Lee was able to save two shots but one shot from Kayla Carter slipped through her grasp and gave the Lakers the win. In the first period Lisa Stathopulos had the only goal at 9:32.

Dana Somerville was also a lone goal scorer in the second period with a goal at 10:37.

Lee ended the game with a total of 30 saves, while Laker's goalie ended with 23 saves.

The Lions are now in eighth place with a record of 5-5-0.

The next game for the Lions is on Sunday (Nov. 16) against the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury, Ont.
