The York University men's hockey team fell to the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-2 on Saturday (Jan. 24) in Toronto.
 
With the start of the first, the Blues came out on fire as Jeff Brown scored an early, unassisted goal at 4:22. One minute later, the Blue's Andrew Doyle and Marcus Yolevski rushed the Lions net, sending the puck soaring to Michael Markovic who planted it in the back of the net at 5:11. With only five minutes into the game, the Blues were already up 2-0.
 
The Blues were not finished with their attack as Jeff Brown and Tyler Liukkonen assisted a goal to Paul Van De Velde at 8:07, raising the score to 3-0 for the Blues.
 
The Lions did not let the setback put them down, as Kyle Campbell (Halifax, N.S.) smacked the puck to Tyler McGee (Timmins, Ont.) who scored a goal for the Lions at 16:21, changing the score to 3-1.
 
The second period was scoreless as neither side conceded a goal. The Lions hounded 13 shots at the Blues net, while the Blues took five shots.
 
In the third, the Lions luck extended as Michael Santini (Woodbridge, Ont.) scored a goal at 18:53. The Lions had hope of extending the game into overtime in the final minute of play but Blues goalie Garrett Sheehan blocked every shot, ending the game at 3-2 for the Blues.
 
Lions goalie Chris Perugini (King City, Ont.) saved a total of 17 of 20 shots, while Sheehan saving 39 of 41 shots.
 
The Lions are in seventh place in the OUA West standing with a record of 9-12-2 while the Blues sit in fifth with 10-11-1.
 
The next game for the Lions is a home game on Thursday (Jan. 29) at 7pm against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
