The York University women's volleyball team lost 3-1 to the Ryerson Rams on Friday evening (Nov. 20) at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.

After the Rams found their groove midway through the first set, the Lions struggled to narrow the lead and Ryerson ended up taking it 25-14.

In the second set, both teams battled back and forth for the win, but an eight-point sequence towards the end of the set secured the Lions the 25-19 victory.

Kayla Clennon (Stoufville, Ont.) and
Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.) both nailed in the kills, and
Celeste Witzell (Kitchener, Ont.) continued to serve as the Lions forced mistakes on the Rams' end.

In the third set the Lions lost their footing and the Rams were able to capitalize on enough of their chances to take the set with a score of 25-15.

Heading into the fourth set the Lions were determined. Kills from Williams, Witzell and
Cadence Currie (Scarborough, Ont.) nearly helped the Lions come back from a five-point deficit midway through the set. However, the Rams edged out a 25-22 win that won them the match.

Witzell led the Lions in scoring with 15 points on 11 kills and four service aces, and also added four digs, while Williams had 14 points on 13 kills and a service ace. Setter
Kirsten Dillon (Surrey, B.C.) finished with 32 assists.

Ryerson's leading scorer was Veronica Livingston with 18.5 points on 16 kills and 2.5 digs.

On Sunday (Nov. 22), the Lions will return home for a home game at the Tait McKenzie Centre. The team will match up against the undefeated and No. 4 nationally-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues and will tip off at 6pm.
