York University Sport & Recreation honoured fifth-year forward
Nick Tufegdzich for his contributions to the program before his final regular-season home game against the Carleton Ravens on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 15).
Tufegdzich (Tecumseh, Ont.) has been a forward for the Lions for five seasons and appeared in 95 regular-season games overall. He has been the team's top defensive player throughout his career, leading the Lions in rebounds for four consecutive years. Last year he averaged 13.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game to earn OUA East second-team all-star honours for the first time as one of only three players in the conference to average a double-double.
He's currently enjoying a career year in his fifth and final season, averaging 19.6 points and 10.1 rebounds to rank among the OUA's top five in both categories. He earned CIS athlete of the week honours after leading the Lions to an upset win over the No. 5 Windsor Lancers in his hometown in February.
The graduating player ceremonies are generously sponsored by Investors Group. As part of the celebration, each graduating student-athlete receives a stuffed lion and some fans have the opportunity to take one home from the Lions Toss, presented by Investors Group.
