The York University Lions track and field team had a golden weekend (Jan. 15-16) at University of Toronto's Fred Foot Memorial Meet, garnering five first-place finishes.

The weight throw event was were the Lions shone the brightest, as all three Lions competing qualified for the OUA championships and one,
Chris Preece (Cookstown, Ont.) also surpassed the CIS qualifying standard with a distance of 18.47m, which won him the gold medal.

The two other Lions who automatically qualified were
Anojan Sivalingam (Scarborough, Ont.), who finished in third place with a throw of 15.13m, and
Drew Erskine (Truro, N.S.), who came away with a fourth-place finish with a toss of 14.73m.

Tracey Edwards (Ottawa) rose to the top of the podium on Saturday, collectively beating the field with a total of 2066 points in the pentathlon. Edwards had a season-best time 9.91 seconds in the 60m hurdles, which was followed by a personal-best score in the shot put event with a throw of 8.80m.

The Lions' women's 4x200m squad defeated the pack of the OUA competition as
Courtney Dwyer (Orleans, Ont.),
Shaunalee Bennett (Etobicoke, Ont.),
Nicolette Witherspoon (Pickering, Ont.) and
Emily Goodwin (Stouffville, Ont.) combined for a time of 1:46:85, which was good for first place.

The men's 4x200 crew also took home a top finish as
Daniele Orsini (Etobicoke, Ont.),
Kingboy Douglas Jr. (Windsor, Ont.),
Brandon Shoukour (North York, Ont.) and
Jalen Pidlubny (Scarborough, Ont.) contributed to the gold medal time of 1:34:22.

Kayden Johnson (Kerrobert, Sask.) had a dominant performance in the long jump event at the meet, leaping onto the top of the podium with jump of 6.18m.

The Lions are back on home soil on Saturday, Jan. 30 when they welcome the entire OUA for the York Open track meet at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.
