The York University Lions women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to the undefeated and No. 4 nationally-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues at the Goldring Centre in Toronto on Sunday (Jan. 17).

The Varsity Blues were able to better the Lions in points in all three sets, winning the first set 25-16, the second set 25-18 and the third set 25-19. The Lion's best set was in the third, where they were able to nail in 13 kills.Â

The Lions had several strong performances from
Cadence Currie (Scarborough, Ont.),
Keeva MacLeod (Ottawa) and
Celeste Witzell (Kitchener, Ont.) who all scored six points a piece. Currie and Witzell grabbed six kills each, while MacLeod had three.

Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.) and
Heather Setka (Winnipeg) also contributed points to the team. Williams tallied the most digs of both teams with 17 and Setka collected four kills. Setter
Kirsten Dillon (Surrey, B.C.) also helped the team with 23 assists.

For the Varsity Blues, Alina Dorman, Anna Feore and Madelyn Mandryk made the most impact. Dorman led the team with 14 points, Feore led with 12 kills and Mandryk had a game high of 39 assists.

The Lions are currently in fifth place in OUA East standings with a 4-7 record on the year and eight points.

Within the week the Lions will gear up to take on the Queen's Gaels at the Kingston Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC). Action will be underway at 6pm on Friday (Jan. 22).
