The York University Lions track and field team had a solid weekend at the 2016 uOttawa Winternational Meet, as they picked up three first-place finishes and hit the podium 12 times.

Thrower
Brittany Crew (East York, Ont.) had the biggest weekend for the Lions as she won both of her events, placing first in the shot put (16.76m) and the weight throw (17.36m). She dominated the competition in the shot put out throwing the second place finisher by over six metres. The weight throw was closer as she topped her closest competitor by 8 centimetres.

Coming off a first place finish last week at U of T's Fred Foot Memorial Meet, the women's 4x200m squad continued their winning ways as they took home the gold medal in a combined time of 1:46.84.
Shania Payne (Maple Ridge, BC) led off the relay for the Lions, followed by
Sheereen Harris (Toronto),
Mikeisha Bobb (London, Ont.) and
Courtney Dwyer (Orleans, Ont.) capping off the win running anchor.

Harris and Bobb were also successful in individual events, as Harris ran to a 7.66 second place finish in the 60m, while Bobb set a personal best time of 40.31 in the 300m in taking home the silver. The other Lions silver medal finishers from the weekend included
Dereck Djan (Toronto) in the men's 60m (7.03),
Ayo Agusto (Lagos, Nigeria) in the men's 300m (33.96),
Jonathan Raspanti (Woodbridge, Ont.) with a personal best in the men's shotput (12.22m) and
Chris Preece (Cookstown, Ont.) in the men's weight throw (17.64m).

Rounding out the podium finishers for the Lions were
Tyler Campbell (Brantford, Ont.) in the men's shot put (11.64m),
Drew Erskine (Truro N.S.) with a personal best in the men's weight throw (11.64m) and
Bailey Francis (Halifax) in the women's long jump (4.92m).

The Lions will be defending their home turf this Saturday (Jan. 30) as they welcome the entire OUA for the York Open track meet at the Toronto Track and Field Centre. The action starts at 9am.Â
