Sebastien Galzote and Alexandria Town led the way for the York University wrestling team on Saturday (Jan. 23) at the Western Open in London, Ont., as they both picked up silver medals in their respective weight classes.
 
First-year student Galzote (Thornhill, Ont.) started his day in the men's 61kg category by defeating Gabriel Choueke (YMHA) by a score of 8-3. He followed that up with a route of Western's Eric Renaud in the semi-finals, shutting out his opponent 10-0 in paving his way to the final. He dropped the finals by a score of 10-7 to Tony Laramie of Essex in a closely contested match. 
 
Third-year standout Town (Scarborough, Ont.) continued her strong season in the women's 55kg division as she started the day by winning a close match (10-8) against Emily Kessler of UOFW. Like her teammate Galzote, she also dominated the semi-final match as she took down McMaster's Jenna Leslie by a score of 10-0 en route to the finals. She faced tough competition in the final as she fell 7-0 to junior national champion Julie Steffler of the Western Mustangs.
 
Gurnek Tak (Brampton, Ont.) and Tyler Tate-Austin (Brampton, Ont.) also had strong weekends for the Lions as both finished the tournament in fourth place in the men's 57kg and 120kg categories respectively.
 
Overall the Lions finished the tournament ranked ninth in the team standings out of 26 total teams.
 
Next up for the wrestling team is the OUA Championships on Feb. 13 in Hamilton, Ont.
