The York University Lions women's tennis team finished the OUA regular season undefeated for the third straight year with victories over the McGill Martlets and Waterloo Warriors this weekend.
The Lions defeated the Martlets 6-1 at home on Friday and then knocked off the Warriors by the same score on the road in Waterloo, Ont., on Saturday. They ended the regular season with seven victories and have now won 23 straight regular season contests dating back to 2013.
Former OUA rookie of the year
Eugenie Lim Ah Tock (Curepipe, Mauritius) was once again impressive, winning all four of her singles and doubles matches this past weekend to finish the season undefeated.
Top seed
Nikki Carnovale (Woodbridge, Ont.), the reigning OUA player of the year, also continued her domination of opponents, picking up a pair of wins in straight sets. Her doubles partner,
Heather Hills (Markham, Ont.) played out of the third spot against Waterloo and the fourth spot against McGill and won both matches.
On the men's side, the Lions finished 1-5 after a pair of losses to McGill and Waterloo on the final weekend.
Against the Warriors, the Lions nearly pulled out the victory but ended up falling 4-3.
Filip Obucina (Etobicoke, Ont.), the team's top seed, was the only York player to win both of his singles matches this past weekend and he also went undefeated in doubles with two different partners.
The Lions now have a weekend off and will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 13 with the start of the OUA championships in London, Ont. The women will be the top seeds and will be looking to reach the final for the third straight year.
