The York University Lions women's volleyball team earned a four-set victory over the OUA's newest team, the Trent Excalibur, in their first ever trip to Peterborough, Ont., on Saturday evening.

The Excalibur gave the Lions a tough fight, particularly in the first set by taking it 25-22. But the Lions bounced back in convincing fashion after that, winning the next three sets 25-21, 25-14, 25-18 to earn their third victory of the year and stopping what was a three-game losing streak.

The Lions are now 3-3 in the OUA East standings, while the Excalibur fell to 2-4.

The Lions had three players score in double digits, led by
Celeste Witzell (Kitchener, Ont.) with 14. She had 11 kills, two blocks and one service ace and also added one dig.

Melissa Monkhouse (Guelph, Ont.) put up 10.5 points on eight kills, 1.5 blocks and one service ace, while
Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.) had 10 points on eight kills and two service aces and also led all Lions with 13 digs.

Trent's leading scorer was Camile Garzon with 14.5 points on 11 kills, three service aces and an assisted block, and she also put up a match-high 17 digs.

After four games on the road, the Lions will finally return home next weekend for a pair of games against the Queen's Gaels and RMC Paladins, beginning with the Gaels on Saturday evening (Nov. 26) at 6pm.
