TOWN AND TATE-AUSTIN BRING HOME MEDALS AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIPS

It was a successful day for the Lions wrestling team Saturday (Feb. 13) as Alexandria Town and Tyler Tate-Austin both won bronze medals at the OUA Wrestling Championships at Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
 
Competing the women's 55kg category, Town (Scarborough, Ont.) claimed her second straight medal at the OUA Championships, following up on the silver medal she won last year. Carlene Sluberski of the Brock Badgers won the gold in her category while Julie Steffler of the Western Mustangs picked up the silver. Town also had a successful weekend off the mat, as she was named an OUA Major Award Winner taking home the Women's Community Service Award for her outstanding achievements this year in wrestling, academics and community service.  
 
Wrestling in his first OUA Championships, Tate-Austin (Brampton, Ont.) brought home the bronze for the Lions in the men's 120kg category. His top competitors on the day were Tyson Frost of the Guelph Gryphons who won the gold medal, while Kyle Bong of the Western Mustangs won the silver medal. Tate-Austin earned his spot in the OUA Championships by defeating teammate Ali Koca (Richmond Hill, Ont.) in wrestle off for the Lions lone spot in the 120kg category.
 
With their podium results, both Town and Tate-Austin have now qualified for the CIS Championships, which will take place on Feb. 26-27 at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont.
 
The powerhouse Brock Badgers finished in first place in both the men's and women's team standings. The Lions finished in sixth place in the men's team standings.
