The York University Lions track and field team competed in two 'last chance' meets over the weekend, where athletes had one final opportunity to qualify for the OUA championships taking place this weekend (Feb. 26-27) in Windsor, Ont.

At the Hal Brown Last Chance meet at U of T on Friday (Feb. 19), third year distance runner
Harishan Karunenthiran (Brampton, Ont.) took full advantage of his last chance as he finished the men's 1500m in a personal best time of 4:06.87 and was the only Lion to meet the OUA standard in their event for the first time this season.

Plenty of other Lions had successful days on the U of T campus including first place finishers
Nick Fyffe (Vancouver) in the men's long jump (6.60m) and
Bailey Francis (Halifax) in the women's triple jump (11.06). Individual silver medalists also included
Courtney Dwyer (Orleans, Ont.) in the women's 300m (40.48) in a personal best time,
Sarah Hiscott (London, Ont.) in the women's high jump (1.51m), and
Richard Jansen (Bradford, Ont.) in the men's triple jump (6.56m).

Meanwhile at the Guelph Last Chance meet on Saturday (Feb. 20), a small team of field athletes competed with thrower
Brittany Crew (East York) leading the way with two first place finishes in the women's shotput (17.22m) and weight throw (17.48m).

David McKay (Victoria) in the men's pole vault (1
st – 5.15m),
Samuel Adams (Glasgow, Scotland) also in the men's pole vault (3
rd – 4.60m) and
Chris Preece (Cookstown, Ont.) in the men's weight throw (2
nd – 19.27m).

The Lions will be in action this weekend (Feb. 26-27) at the OUA Championships in Windsor, Ont. In just over two weeks time the Lions will welcome athletes from across the country as they host the CIS Championships at the Toronto Track and Field Centre from March 10-12.Â
