Szwarc Named CIS Second-Team All-CanadianÂ
The post-season awards keep coming for Lions outside hitter
Arthur Szwarc, as he was recognized on a national level as a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) second-team all-Canadian for the 2015-16 season the CIS announced Wednesday (Mar. 9).
Â
The 6'10" Szwarc (Toronto) had an outstanding sophomore season with the Lions as he ranked third in the OUA in points (331), sixth in points per set (4.5), sixth in service aces (22), fourth in kills (248), and ninth in kills per set (3.35). He was also a defensive force at the net as he ranked first in the OUA in total blocks (93) and blocks per set (1.26).
Â
The Lions secured an OUA playoff berth by winning their last two games of the regular season against nationally-ranked opponents the Waterloo Warriors (No. 10) and McMaster Marauders (No. 2). Szwarc played one of his best games of the season in the must-win game against McMaster, as he picked up 25 points and 18 kills, with an efficient .519 kill percentage, and led the Lions to a berth in the OUA Quarterfinals.
Â
The CIS second-team all-Canadian honour comes just a week after Szwarc was named a first-team all-star in the OUA's men's volleyball conference awards. Szwarc was also named to the OUA all-rookie team in his freshman season with the Lions.Â
Â
With no graduating players this season the future looks bright for Szwarc and the Lions, who will be back on the court next fall to kick-off the 2016-17 season.
