The York University Lions women's tennis team stretched its OUA regular season unbeaten streak to 21 ties this past weekend with a sweep of its three matches.
The Lions began the weekend with a 5-2 win over their closest rivals in the Montreal Carabins, who topped the Lions in the OUA final last year for the team's only loss since 2013. They followed that up with a pair of 7-0 shutouts over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday and the Carleton Ravens on Sunday.
Eugenie Lim Ah Tock (Curepipe, Mauritius) went undefeated on the weekend, winning all three of her singles and doubles matches. In singles, she played twice out of the second spot, posting a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over her Carleton counterpart, and she also defeated Toronto 6-3, 6-0. Against the Carabins she played in the third spot and won a close battle 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
She teamed with rookie
Sara Krupica (Toronto) in doubles, winning 8-4 against Montreal and 8-1 over Toronto.
Krupica was also dominant in singles herself, winning all three of her matches. She needed three sets against the Carabins but cruised against both the Blues and Ravens.
The Lions men's tennis team also had a successful weekend, picking up their first victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Carleton. Their slate of ties also included a 5-2 loss to Montreal and a 6-1 loss to Toronto.
Tre Eli (Toronto) won two of his three singles matches and all three of his doubles contests. Playing out of the fifth spot against the Carabins, he dropped the second set but bounced back to win the third in a tiebreak, and playing out of the third spot against the Ravens he won in straight sets.
In doubles he partnered with
Dylan Shanmugadhasan (Scarborough, Ont.) to defeat the Carabins, Blues and Ravens 8-6, 8-3 and 8-1, respectively.
The Lions have another three ties this coming weekend, their final ones before the OUA championships in mid October. They will host the McGill Redmen / Martlets on Friday (Sept. 30) at 3pm before a pair of road contests against the Waterloo Warriors and McMaster Marauders on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
