The York University Lions women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses in road action this weekend, falling to the Waterloo Warriors 3-1 and the Guelph Gryphons 3-0.

Against the Warriors on Saturday, the Lions took the first set 25-21 and led the second set 16-13 at the technical timeout, but momentum soon shifted over to the Warriors and they held on down the stretch to take the set 26-24.

From there it was all Waterloo, as they took the third set 25-12 and the fourth 25-21 for the victory.

Melissa Monkhouse (Guelph, Ont.) led the Lions with 10.5 points on eight kills, two service aces and one assisted block, and also added seven digs, while
Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.) had 10 points on nine kills and one service ace and also had 12 digs.

The following day, the Gryphons won all three sets by scores of 25-16 for their fifth win in a row. Monkhouse and Williams were again the Lions' leading scorers, with Monkhouse finishing with seven points and Williams with six.

Kirsten Dillon (Surrey, B.C.) had 34 total assists over the two days, while libero
Carley Flemmer (Delta, B.C.) recorded 24 digs.

The Lions fell to 6-6 with the losses but remain in third place in the OUA East Division with 12 points.

They have just one game next weekend, a road contest against the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont., on Saturday (Feb. 4) beginning at 12pm. The Lions' next home game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 12 when they welcome the undefeated and No. 2 nationally-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues to the Tait McKenzie Centre.
