The York University Lions track and field team posted a number of impressive results, including nine podium finishes, at the Jet's Pizza Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan.
Â
Leading the way was
Mikeisha Bobb (London, Ont.), who won three medals and set a new personal best in one event. She won the gold medal in the 200m and the 60m hurdles, setting a personal best time of 25.15 seconds in the first event and surpassing the OUA standard with a time of 8.71 seconds in the other.
Â
She was also part of the 4x400m relay team that won the silver medal in a time of 3:54.67, running alongside teammate
Heniesha Christie (Pickering, Ont.),
Christy Ihunaegbo (East York, Ont.) and
Nicolette Witherspoon (Pickering, Ont.).
Â
Ihunaegbo was also a double medallist on the weekend, adding a bronze medal to her collection in the 400m with a time of 56.36 seconds.
Â
In addition to Bobb's gold medals, long jumper
Holly Pitters (Mississauga, Ont.) continued her strong season with another first-place finish in the event. She won with a distance of 5.99 metres, which set a new fieldhouse record. Teammate
Stella Isaac (Toronto) joined Pitters on the podium with a third-place finish with a distance of 5.35 metres.
Â
Pitters wasn't the only jumping gold medallist as
Nicholas Fyffe (Vancouver) accomplished the same feat, winning the men's triple jump with a distance of 14.78 metres, good enough to surpass the U SPORTS standard for this year's championships. He was also fifth in the long jump and will compete in the OUA championships in both events.
Â
The remaining two medals came on the track courtesy of
Xavier Jehovah (Toronto) and
Demari Grant (Brampton, Ont.). Jehovah won the silver in the 200m with a personal best time of 21.94 seconds, while Grant picked up the bronze medal in the 60m with a time of 7.10 seconds.
Â
Next up for the Lions is their home York Open meet, which will take place at the Toronto Track and Field Centre on Friday and Saturday.
