NO. 4 MUSTANGS BLANK LIONS AFTER TWO EARLY GOALS

The York University Lions women's soccer team was defeated by a score of 2-0 by the No. 4 nationally-ranked Western Mustangs in Sunday afternoon action at Alumni Field.

It didn't take long for the Mustangs to get on the scoreboard, as Giulia Geraci and Julia Crnjac both found the back of the net before the game was 10 minutes old to give their team a 2-0 advantage they would not relinquish.

That was more than enough for Western's defence, which has allowed only two goals in 11 matches this season, and the rest of the game remained scoreless.

Taylor Grant played the first half and allowed two goals on five shots. Tamara Orlando came in for the second half and stopped all three shots she faced. At the other end of the pitch, Megan Girardi made four saves for the win.

The Lions dropped to 1-6-4 with the loss and remain on the outside of the playoff picture in the OUA West Division, while the Mustangs are now 10-1-0 and lead the division standings.

The Lions have their final road trip of the regular season coming up next weekend when they travel to Hamilton, Ont., on Friday night to face the McMaster Marauders and then St. Catharines, Ont., on Sunday to take on the Brock Badgers.
