GRYPHONS DOUBLE UP ON LIONS IN AFTERNOON ACTION

The York University Lions women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hand of the Guelph Gryphons on Wednesday afternoon on the road in Guelph, Ont.

The Gryphons opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a goal by Sydney Johnson for an early 1-0 lead. Later in the first half the Lions had a chance to equal the score but Michaela Krampert's shot was saved by Guelph goalkeeper Libby Brenneman.

Stephanie Lamanna had another chance to level the score early in the second half but Brenneman again was up to the task with the save.

Guelph finally got the insurance goal in the 71st minute by Victoria Hinchliffe, with an assist to Alana MacLean, and then the Gryphons defence stood tall to keep the ball away from their net to the final whistle.

Brenneman finished with the two saves, while York goalkeeper Taylor Grant made one save in the loss.

The Lions dropped to 1-5-2 with the loss and remain with five points in the OUA West standings, while the Gryphons moved back into first place with a 6-2-1 record.

The Lions will remain on the road for their next contest, heading to Waterloo, Ont., on Friday evening for a 6pm game against the Warriors.
