The York University Lions women's tennis team extended its OUA regular-season winning streak to 24 matches this weekend with a 5-2 victory over the McGill Martlets and a 7-0 default win over the McMaster Marauders.
The Lions men's team also picked up its first victory of the season with a narrow 4-3 triumph over McMaster. They were also defeated by the same score by the Redmen.
Against the Martlets, the Lions earned the doubles point and then took four singles matches to secure the win.
Eugenie Lim Ah Tock,
Heather Hills,
Isabella Baston and
Sara Krupica were all victorious in singles in straight sets and they also paired up to win their doubles matches.
In the men's team's triumph over the Redmen,
Sahil Sareen,
Karan Negi and
Xander Owen-Vasilis all won their singles matches in straight sets. Owen-Vasilis and Negi also teamed up to win their doubles match, as did
Nikola Janev and
Georg Zoidl.
The Lions have one more weekend of the regular season coming up and they will stay at home to host the Montreal Carabins on Friday at 1pm and the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday at 12pm. The squads will be preparing for the upcoming OUA championships, which will be held the following weekend at the Mayfair Tennis Club in Markham, Ont., and hosted by the Toronto Varsity Blues.
