The York University Lions men's and women's track and field teams headed down the 401 to Windsor, Ont. to compete in the 37
th annual Can Am Classic this past weekend and had seven podium finishes, three U SPORTS automatic qualifiers and 16 new personal bests.

Leading the way on the women's side was fifth-year captain
Holly Pitters, who won the gold medal in the women's long jump with a best jump of 5.73m. The reigning U SPORTS champion in the event, she is currently ranked first nationally this season.

Also on the women's side,
Christy Ihunaegbo finished third in the 300m dash with a time of 39.18 seconds. Ihunaegbo won the silver medal at the CIS championships back in 2015 and hopes to be back on the podium this year.

On the men's side, third-year pole vaulter
Samuel Adams tied for first in the event with a jump of 5.01m. Not only was this a personal best for him, but it was also enough to surpass the U SPORTS auto standard by 20cm and place him in a tie for first place in the national rankings.

Kayden Johnson also qualified for U SPORTS championships in the men's 60m hurdles after claiming the gold medal in Windsor a time of 8.21 seconds.

Nicholas Fyffe made his way onto the podium twice – earning silver in the men's triple jump and bronze in the men's long jump. Fyffe, last year's national silver medallist, is currently ranked second in the country in triple jump.

The men's 4x400m relay team of
Xavier Jehovah,
Levar Russell,
Daniele Orsini and
Mark Hutchinson ran an impressive 3:23.92 to capture the silver medal at the Can Am Classic.

The Lions will compete next weekend at the Fred Foot Invitational at the University of Toronto Athletic Centre, and the following weekend they will head south of the border to take on some NCAA Division 1 competition at the Jet's Pizza Invitational taking place at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan.
