The York University Lions track and field team had another solid weekend of competition, this time at the Fred Foot Meet at the University of Toronto. The squad combined to win 11 medals, record nine personal bests and have 24 OUA automatic qualifiers.

Leading the way was a pair of gold medals courtesy of
Tohma Van Bergen and
Kaitlin Brooks. Van Bergen ran a personal-best time of 36.06 seconds in the men's 300m to finish in first place in the race, and Brooks threw a 12.62m in the women's shot put to win the event.

In addition, the men's and women's 4x200m relay teams finished in first place in their respective races. Running for the men were
Demari Grant,
Quinn Charles,
Xavier Joseph and
Zeon Bass, and the women's runners were
Nicolette Witherspoon,
Marvelous Agbonwaneten,
Diana Boa and
Zakiya Tavernier.

Joseph had a big meet with a pair of total podium finishes. In addition to the relay win, he also won the bronze medal in the 60m with an OUA-qualifying time of 7.04 seconds. Finishing right ahead of him was teammate
Xavier Jehovah, who picked up the silver in a time of 7.03 seconds.

Also winning a medal on the track was
Ali Ghadghoni, who won the bronze in the men's 1000m with a time of 2:37.77, which also qualifies him for the OUA championships in the event.

The other two medals from the men's team were won by
Drew Erskine and
Tim Sirisombath in the weight throw and triple jump, respectively. Erskine won the silver medal in his event with a throw of 14.66m, while Sirisombath finished second with a personal-best distance of 13.04m. Both qualified to the OUA championships as well.

The women's team won another two medals.
Courtney Dwyer was the bronze medallist in the 300m in an OUA-qualifying time of 41.12 seconds, and
Bailey Francis picked up the silver medal in the triple jump.

A small contingent of Lions will head across the border next weekend to Sagninaw, Mich., for the Jet's Pizza Invitational at Saginaw Valley State University. The following weekend, the full team will be in action at the annual York Open at the Toronto Track & Field Centre.
