LIONS OUT IN FULL FORCE AT MEETS IN MICHIGAN AND NEW YORK

The York University track and field team travelled south of the border to compete at two different meets. The bulk of the athletes went to the Jet's Pizza Invitational at Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan, while the pole vaulters went to the Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The entire team saw huge success, earning 10 medals.

Christy Ihunaegbo led the women's track results, winning the gold medal in both the 200m and 400m. Her performance in the 400m saw her set a new fieldhouse record of 55.11 seconds.

In the field, long jumper Holly Pitters claimed the gold medal with a jump of 5.92m, while Kaitlin Brooks threw 13.28m to win the bronze medal in the shot put and remain in fourth place in the national rankings.

To round out results for the women's contingent, the 4x400m relay team of Nicolette Witherspoon, Ihunaegbo, Marvelous Agbonwaneten and Courtney Dwyer ran their way to a gold medal. Their time of 3:48.96 puts them in third place in the U SPORTS rankings.

On the men's side, Kayden Johnson finished third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.14 seconds to move into first place in U SPORTS. Also on the track, Xavier Joseph claimed the bronze medal in the 60m.

Nicholas Fyffe took home two bronze medals. He finished third in the long jump with a distance of 7.05m on day one, moving into fourth place in the nation. He then hit the U SPORTS auto standard in the triple jump on day two with a jump of 14.87m for his second podium finish of the weekend.

Weight throwers Jonathan Raspanti and Drew Erskine both had personal-best performances, and are now ranked fifth and eighth, respectively, in U SPORTS.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Xavier Jehovah, Levar Russell, Mark Hutchinson and Daniele Orsini also had an impressive performance, running 3:19.80 and moving into third place in U SPORTS.

At Cornell University's Kane Invitational, pole vaulter Samuel Adams won the men's event with a new personal best of 5.05m. He now sits in second place in the U SPORT rankings.

Heading into this meet, the men's team was ranked third in the OUA and fifth in U SPORTS and the women were ranked sixth in the conference and 11th in U the nation. With this weekend's results, both teams look forward to continuing to climb the rankings.

The Lions will compete at home for the final time this coming weekend when they host the York Open on Friday and Saturday at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.
