The York University Lions women's rugby team played host to the McMaster Marauders on Friday at Alumni Field in their opening game of the 2018 season. The Lions hung tough against one of the top teams in the OUA but came away with a 57-12 defeat the hands of the Marauders.

Scoring try's for the Lions was fourth-year player
Michela Stratton who put the first points on the board for the Lions in the first-half and team captain
Megan Pakulis who bowled her way into the try zone for a score in the second half.
Natasha Naismith picked up the conversion on Stratton's try.

Leading the way for the Marauders was Katie Svoboda, Cassidy Calvert and Madeleine Seatle who each had two tries. Svoboda's sister Sara Svoboda also had a try and kicked six converts.

The Lions will play at home again next weekend when they welcome the Western Mustangs to Alumni Field. The game starts at 5pm on Saturday Sept. 8.
