The York University Lions women's field hockey team suffered a 3-1 loss to the league-leading Toronto Varsity Blues in the final regular-season contest in Toronto on Sunday (Oct. 19).
 
The Lions were able to hold off their opponents for almost a half hour. Rookie forward Michelle Per (Port Moody, B.C.) scored her fourth goal of the season to give the team an early lead at the 25^th minute.
 
However, just four minutes after the goal the Varsity Blues equalized through top-scorer Alison Lee. In the 34^th minute, the team took the lead with a goal from Emma Stairs.
 
After the break, the Varsity Blues stamped their victory with a third goal by Amanda Woodcroft. The Varsity Blues celebrated their victory, finishing the season at first place in the OUA standings without a single loss.
 
The Lions ended with a record of 3-7-2 and finished the season at fifth place with 11 points. The record was enough to book them a ticket to the OUA championships next weekend in Brampton, Ont. They will play a quarter-final game against the Waterloo Warriors in their first match of the tournament.
