STRATEGIC PRIORITIES - York University, Athletics & Recreation
There are 6 main priorities.
1. Bolstering community engagement:Â
We’re all about making student life awesome. By teaming up on events and promotions, we keep things exciting and connected across our three campuses. Plus, we’re big on getting involved in the community, helping students make a real difference. |
2. Breaking down barriers and serving non-traditional user groups:Â
We're committed to boosting engagement and accessibility for everyone, especially non-traditional users. We're expanding our "How to Play" program, increasing awareness of our services and events, and creating welcoming student gathering areas. Look out for new diverse fitness programs and more accessible facilities, plus safe spaces specifically for marginalized individuals. |
3. Launching our Sports/ Athletes-Support Model:Â
We're developing a transparent, EDI-focused support model to ensure fairness and inclusion. Our strategy for recruitment, retention, and success will help everyone thrive. We'll also offer transition services for student-athletes and create performance plans to boost our sports teams' success |
4. Elevating the York Lions Brand:Â
We're streamlining booking processes and enhancing our A&R structure for a smoother experience. Expect better branding in our A&R facilities, with a focus on sponsorship, naming rights, and co-branding to elevate our programs and partnerships. |
5. Resource Development Opportunities to invest in Innovation and Student Success:Â
We’re boosting engagement by enhancing athlete experiences and integrating A&R more effectively. We'll create collaborative opportunities with Advancement and look into integrating membership fees into university fees while considering options for external memberships. Securing funding and staffing for our well-being strategy is a priority, as is exploring revenue opportunities for recreational programs. We’re also focusing on alumni engagement and mentorship opportunities. |
6. Championing an Equitable Environment and a Sense of Belonging for All:Â
We’re dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace with the help of an EDI Taskforce and a new staff recognition program. We're fostering a sense of belonging and also Lions Pride, and developing a build-back plan based on our engagement survey. By enhancing A&R relations with leadership and rental groups, and shifting to proactive campus growth strategies, we aim to foster a collaborative culture and clarify our service delivery models. |
