SOBEYS STADIUM

Facilities

Rexall Centre

The Sobeys Stadium is home to Tennis Canada and is the site of the Rogers Cup, an annual stop on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour calendars. The Rogers Cup draws the world's best players and thousands of spectators to York each summer.

The Lions play some of their competitive matches at Sobeys Stadium, and it has been the host venue for the OUA championships, most recently in 2007. The annual college and university national championships have also been held at the site during the Rogers Cup tournament.

Sobeys Stadium features up to 16 tennis courts with a hard-court surface. The main stadium has lights for night matches and a seating capacity of 12,500 for the Rogers Cup with the addition of bleachers on the roof of the facility.

There are seven other permanent outdoor courts, including the Grandstand, which has a seating capacity of 2,000.

There are four outdoor courts that make up the Cynamon Family Practice Courts. In the winter, these courts are covered with a bubble so that tennis can continue indoors.

The Centre of Excellence features 35,000 feet of indoor space with 40-foot ceilings. It is used for a variety of different functions and is converted into four indoor courts during the winter months. Recently, it became the home of York's convocation services for graduating students.

Additional Tennis Courts

When not competing at Sobeys Stadium, the Lions tennis teams face off against OUA competition at the Tait McKenzie tennis courts, which are located just east of the Tait McKenzie Centre. There are five full doubles tennis courts, each with a Laykold surface.
