Please note that credentials are only issued to working media personnel from a legitimate media organization. Credentials must be displayed while on site and are not transferable.
Photographers are allowed at field / court level but must remain well behind the field of play.
Special for football: As per the OUA sideline policy, the following additional regulations apply:
- Photographers must stay 3 metres (9' 10") behind the sideline and end zone (i.e. behind the advertising banners).
- Photographers and camera operators are prohibited from the team bench areas
- It is forbidden to leave camera equipment unattended along the sidelines and end zones.
Media members and photographers are not allowed in the bench areas or locker rooms.
INTERVIEWS
Interviews with York University student-athletes, coaches and staff can be arranged anytime by contacting Ben Browne in the sport information office. 24-hour notice would be appreciated, where possible. Student-athletes have been instructed to refer interview requests to the sport information office. York will not provide contact numbers for student-athletes without their prior consent.
Game Day
Pre-Game and Halftime / Intermission Interviews
Game day interviews with student-athletes or coaches will normally only be granted to broadcast rightsholders. Please contact the sport information office to make arrangements.
Post-Game Interviews
Football
Following the game, the head coaches and selected players for the Lions will be made available to the media 10 minutes following the final play, in the York Stadium meeting room. Only broadcast rightsholders may conduct post-game interviews with the Lions on the field. Please advise the sport information staff of any requested coaches and/or athletes. The team dressing rooms are closed at all times.
Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball
Following the game, players and coaches will be made available to the media after a 10-minute cooling off period, in a designated area. If you would like to speak with a player post-game please inform the sport information representative on site and your request will be accommodated. The team dressing rooms are closed at all times.
Attending Practice
Practices are normally open to the media but may be closed at the sole discretion of the head coach. Media wishing to attend practice are advised to confirm schedules and locations with the sport information office prior to venturing out.
For football practices, student-athletes and coaches are normally available at the start of practice (approximately 5:15), but team meetings and pre-practice activities will take priority. Filming may take place during warm-ups and individual drills only. No filming of team formations is permitted. Practice takes place on the playing field just west of York Stadium.
GAME DAY INFORMATION
Football & Soccer (York Lions Stadium)
Media Entrance
Media will call is located at the southwest corner of York Stadium, by the front entrance. All accreditation can be picked up there beginning 90 minutes before kick-off.
Media Seating
The York Lions Stadium press box is for working members of the media only. Press box space is extremely limited. While the sport information office will do its best to accommodate all working media, seating is not guaranteed. As a general rule, preference for press box seating will be given to media who cover the Lions or the opposition on a regular basis. If necessary, press box space will be assigned according to the following criteria:
- Local and provincial newspapers by circulation, wire services, national publications, newspapers from opponents' area and student newspapers from York and opponents' schools.
- Other daily newspapers with preference to those that regularly cover York.
- Radio and television personnel not broadcasting but considered reporting (seats may be provided in the stands but other media access granted).
- Non-daily newspapers, with preference to those that regularly cover York.
- Scouts.
Online outlets will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Press Box Services
Football
- Team game notes, depth charts, game programs, game-day information provided before kick-off.
- Quickie statistics provided after each quarter, with defensive stats and play-by-play statistics available upon request.
- Final statistics will be available online no later than 30 minutes after the game is complete. Printed copies will be provided upon request.
- Wireless Internet is available in the press box. See the sport information staff for connection information. Telephone, copier and fax services are also available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Soccer
- Game program, game notes (if applicable), league standings and stats leaders provided.
- Goal scorers provided as goals happen. Goalie statistics will be made available at the half and then again at the conclusion of the game.
- Wireless Internet is available in the press box. See the sport information staff for connection information.
Basketball & Volleyball (Tait McKenzie Centre)
Media Entrance
Media members can pick up their pass from the Client Services desk in the lobby of the Tait McKenzie Centre. You will need to have a staff member let you through the turnstiles. All credentials can be picked up beginning 60 minutes before the game begins.
Media Seating
There is no official press box within the Tait McKenzie Centre Main Gym. Seats will be reserved in the stands for media members in attendance.
Media Services
- Game program, game notes (if applicable), league standings and stats leaders provided.
- Quickie statistics provided after each quarter/set. For basketball, play-by-play statistics are available upon request at halftime.
- Final statistics will be available online no later than 15 minutes after the game is complete. Printed copies will be provided upon request.
- Wireless Internet is available in the Tait McKenzie Centre. See the sport information staff for connection information.
Hockey (Canlan Ice Sports)
Media Entrance
Media members can pick up their pass from the ticket table at the front doors of Rink A. All credentials can be picked up beginning 60 minutes before the game begins.
Media Seating
The Canlan Ice Sports press box is located on the south side of the rink, above the penalty boxes. Space is limited and provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Most media members choose to sit in the stands on the north side of the rink.
Media Services
- Game program, game notes (if applicable), league standings and stats leaders provided.
- All stats are available online at the end of each period. Printed copies will be available during intermissions upon request.
- Final statistics will be available online no later than 15 minutes after the game is complete. Printed copies will be provided upon request.
- Wireless Internet is NOT available at Canlan Ice Sports. If you require online access during a hockey game, see the sport information staff on site and arrangements will be made with the rink.

The York Lions have many official social media accounts with the different online mediums available. Updates will be posted at regular intervals throughout each home game.
