Here are some handy tips for success!
- On arrival, look for an open lane with the appropriate speed sign for you.
- If there are no free lanes, take a moment to observe the swimmers in each lane.
- Watch for speed and direction and find the most appropriate lane for you to join.
- A Lifeguard may be able to assist you in finding the best lane; please approach them for assistance.
Sharing the Swim Lane
- Splitting a lane – Two people in the lane can swim on either side of the lane.
- Ensure everyone in the lane understands which direction you are swimming.
- Always be aware that more swimmers may join this lane.
- If more swimmers join, you must adopt circle swimming in the lane.
Circle Swimming
- Three or more people swimming in the lane must swim in a circle.
- Ensure everyone in the lane understands which direction you are swimming.
- If you are joining a lane with other people already in it, ensure that they know you are joining them.
- Jump in the lane and wait at the wall until you are sure the swimmer has seen you.
- Talk to the swimmers to ensure you are all on the same page.
- If you need to pass a swimmer, touch their feet and pass at the wall.
- Slower swimmers should yield to faster swimmers, allowing them to pass safely.
- Resting – If you stop to rest, please move to the corner of the lane so the swimmer behind you can turn at the wall.

Some of our programs state "Women's Only". There's some value to this system, but it also falsely perpetuates the idea of gender as a binary and presents other barriers to our building an inclusive recreation community. For the purposes of our program, the terms 'men' and 'women' are inclusive of trans*, gender-fluid, and a gender members of our community. We've trained our staff to understand gender as a spectrum and encourage participants to take part in the programs that best represents their gender as THEY identify.
Accessibility and Inclusion: we are committed to working proactively to ensure members of all abilities can access our facilities, sports, programs and events. We welcome feedback on ways to better serve all members, especially with respect to accessibility and inclusion. If you require an accommodation to participate in any of our aquatic programs, please let us know.
