The York Sport Injury Clinic (YSIC) is an extension of the Department of Athletics & Recreation, offering both a learning environment for student therapists and therapy and medical services to York Lions student-athletes.Â

The YSIC offers free therapy assessment and rehabilitation to all varsity athletes (if provided by staff or student athletic therapists). It also offers physician appointments covered by provincial health care. The clinic also offers immediate care, reconditioning, bracing and taping.
The York Sport Injury Clinic is the primary teaching clinic to provide practical-based experiential learning and application for students in the athletic therapy certificate program within the School of Kinesiology & Health Science. Varsity student-athletes will be seen by an athletic therapy student in addition to the supervising clinician for all treatment.
Who we serve? The clinic is only available to all York Lions varsity student-athletes who have a sport or exercise-related injury.

- Practice and game athlete preparation and follow-up/recovery care

- Orthopaedic assessment and rehabilitation provided by students and certified athletic therapists

Andrea Prieur -Â Sports Medicine and Sport Injury Clinic Manager
Andrea is a Certified Athletic Therapist with over 25 years of experience and a deep connection to York University. A proud graduate of the Athletic Therapy Program, Andrea has remained actively involved with the university, including teaching First Responder curriculum and serving as a placement coordinator as well.
Her professional journey has been shaped by both intercollegiate sports and clinic ownership, as Andrea currently co-owns two physiotherapy clinics. Her expertise in both field and clinical settings has earned her the honor of being selected as a member of the Canadian Core Health Care teams at multiple prestigious international events, including the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2016 Rio Olympics, and the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
In addition to her clinical work, Andrea is a First Responder instructor and continues to maintain her field skills through volunteer work at major games.
Andrea is thrilled to be back at York University, where she collaborates with her colleagues in the clinic and the athletic therapy program to support the health and wellness of the York Lions.

Tracy Meloche - Assistant Manager, Sport Injury Clinic

Tracy is a familiar and trusted figure at the York Sport Injury Clinic, having served as a Certified Athletic Therapist for over 25 years, primarily working with varsity student-athletes. Her long-standing dedication to the York community has made her an integral part of the clinic's success.
Tracy has an impressive career, marked by her involvement in multiple major international sporting events, including the 2000 Summer Olympics. As of late she has been travelling with Canada’s National Para Hockey team. She has also been a key therapist for Canada women’s softball and basketball teams in the past. Her clinical expertise is complemented by her commitment to continuous professional growth, regularly taking post-graduate continuing education courses to ensure she is always at the forefront of athletic therapy.
In 2017, Tracy was honored with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association's Outstanding Supervisory Athletic Therapist Award in recognition of her dedication and impact. She has also been an invaluable mentor to countless students, guiding many through the national examination process and helping them succeed. Her compassion and commitment to the well-being of athletes are widely recognized, with many grateful for her support in recovering from injury and returning to the sports they love.
Tracy’s passion for athletic therapy and mentorship continues to make a lasting impact on both York Lions athletes and the next generation of certified athletic therapists.

Brittney Enright-Blount - Supervisor, Outdoor Sports & Head Football TherapistÂ

Britt is a highly skilled Certified Athletic Therapist who graduated from the York University Athletic Therapy Program. She earned her certification and has since dedicated herself to enhancing the physical well-being of athletes. Britt has had the opportunity to work with the Toronto Argonauts during multiple seasons, gaining invaluable experience in professional sports. She has also had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Zarnett, the York Lions’ team orthopedic surgeon, during a locum role.
Post-certification, Britt worked at the York Sport Injury Clinic, where she developed her expertise in injury management and rehabilitation. She continues to prioritize her professional development by maintaining advanced First Responder certification and completing post-graduate courses in soft tissue release and manual therapy. Additionally, Britt is a Certified Red Cross Instructor, further demonstrating her commitment to healthcare education.
A former York University field hockey player, Britt is also the proud recipient of the Bryce M. Taylor Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to varsity sport by a female athlete. Her dedication to her field and passion for helping athletes recover and perform at their best make her a trusted and accomplished therapist.

Logan Levine – Certified Athletic Therapist
Logan Levine is a newly graduated Certified Athletic Therapist, having completed the York University Athletic Therapy Certificate Program. Since earning his certification, Logan has been fortunate to work at York, where he brings a fresh and dynamic approach to the clinic. His positive attitude and enthusiasm for athletic therapy make him an excellent asset to both the clinic team and the athletes he works with.
Logan is passionate about bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, offering valuable insights to student therapists and helping them develop the skills they need for success in the field. In addition to his work at York, Logan has gained experience with semi-professional sports teams, where he continues to expand his expertise in injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Currently, Logan is also in the process of obtaining his Massage Therapy certification, further enhancing his skill set to provide comprehensive care to athletes. With his dedication to continuous learning and his commitment to improving athlete performance and recovery, Logan is quickly establishing himself as a skilled and resourceful therapist in the field.

Alix Mahood – Certified Athletic Therapist
Alix is a dedicated and skilled Certified Athletic Therapist and Registered Massage Therapist, holding both a Kinesiology degree and Athletic Therapy from York University & Registered Massage Therapy certification. With a strong foundation in kinesiology and hands-on therapeutic techniques, Alix specializes in myofascial release, therapeutic taping, trigger-point therapy, joint mobilizations, and personalized stretching and strengthening exercises.
Alix has extensive experience working with athletes from a variety of sports, including hockey, rugby, football, and lacrosse. Her notable roles include working with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Major Series Lacrosse teams, where she honed her expertise in sports injury prevention and rehabilitation. |

ADDITIONAL CLINIC INFORMATION
Pre-Participation Health History & Medical Clearance
- Every student-athlete will complete an annual questionnaire about their health. This information is reviewed by your team athletic therapist and some follow-ups may be required.Â
- Each incoming student-athlete will also undergo baseline concussion testing and need to see our team physician for a medical check-up. Â
- Student-athletes will receive a unique user email to complete both the pre-participation health history and the online computerized testing for concussion. Â
- Your team’s athletic therapist will coordinate all of this with student-athletes and clearance will occur ONLY once all steps have been completed and fully reviewed.Â
- By completing these steps as soon as possible, there should be no delay in student-athlete participation upon return to competition in the fall.

Location
The York Sport Injury Clinic is located in the Tait McKenzie Centre and is typically open five days/week for therapy and medical needs. At times, due to COVID-19, virtual appointments will be offered with the ability to refer student-athletes to in-person appointments with medical professionals, if required.

Jane App
Jane App is the primary appointment booking and communication platform used in the Sport Injury Clinic. It is a secure electronic medical platform; it will be used to complete pre-participation medical questionnaires, book appointments, or be booked into appointments with team physicians and/or mental health specialists as needed.

Clinic Hours
The clinic is open from Monday-Thursday 9 am-7 pm and Friday 9:00 am - 5 pm. Operational periods may vary during exam period and the summer.Â
Location
The main Sport Injury Clinic is located in room 201 of the Tait McKenzie Centre. There are two other satellite clinics located at Alumni Field and York Lions Stadium.

Fees
There are no associated fees for therapy services provided to each athlete. Physician visits are covered by your valid OHIP card, other provincial health card or UHIP. Occasionally, you may be advised to purchase off the shelf or custom bracing that will be payable upon receipt of purchase.Â
Return to Play Decisions
Athletic therapy students provide field and clinic care for their varsity team. Return to play decisions are made in the best interest of the student-athlete, with the short term goal of safe return as soon as possible, and the long term goal of continuous play and good health for each athlete. Each varsity athlete will need to be cleared to play prior to their first practice on an annual basis. Â

- The clinic is a scent free facility.
- The clinic does not take any other volunteers outside of the athletic therapy students.
- The clinic does not treat patients with workplace or motor vehicles injuries and we reserve the right to cease treatment as determined to be appropriate.
CONCUSSION AWARENESS
Rowan's Law
As set forth in Rowan's Law, it is required that all coaches, support staff, and student-athletes review one of the Ontario's Concussion Awareness Resources within the past 12 months. This will take place during the registration process via the York Lions Coach/Athlete Portal(s).

Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT)
All coaches, support staff, and student-athletes will be required to complete the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) prior to the start of your respective team's training camp. This module will be completed via the York Lions Coach/Athlete Portal(s).

Post-Concussion Return-to-Sport Policy
Varsity athletics has a standard policy and process to ensure a safe return to sport for each athlete. The following requirements must be completed prior to returning to your sport:Â
- Successful return to full academics with no remaining academic accommodations PRIOR to full return to sport clearance. Â
- Successful completion of our staged progression levels in sport, supervised by staff therapist, strength & conditioning, and student therapist.Â
- Passing a neuropsychological test that shows successful return to individual (baseline) function.Â
- Final clearance visit with one of our Sport Medicine Physicians after neuropsychological test.
