The York University Lions men's basketball team recorded its first road win of the season after defeating the Guelph Gryphons 93-85 on Wednesday (Nov. 19) in Guelph, Ont.

The first quarter ended with the Gryphons leading by a thin margin at 22-20. However, the Lions bounced back in the second quarter by ending the half with a 41-36 lead.

The Lions extended their lead in the third quarter to 69-56. Despite outscoring the visiting team in the final quarter, the Gryphons found themselves eight points short off the victors.

Nick Tufegdzich (Tecumseh, Ont.) starred in the match, achieving a double-double with a game-high of 26 points as well as 13 rebounds. Additionally, Tufegdzich recorded three blocks, one steal and one assist.

Nathan Culbreath (Kingston, Ont.) was prolific off the bench with 18 points, three rebounds and two blocks, while
Phillip Cunningham-Gillen (Hamilton, Ont.) and
Richard Iheandindu (Brampton, Ont.) contributed 17 points each.

Guelph's Trevor Thompson scored the highest among his teammates at 25 points. Michel Clark and Daniel Dooley aided the team with 15 points each.

The Lions will face a tough challenge on Saturday (Nov. 22) against the No. 4 nationally-ranked McMaster Marauders at Hamilton, Ont., beginning at 2pm.
