The York University Lions men's volleyball team won 3-1 against the Western Mustangs on Saturday (Nov. 22) in London, Ont., stretching their winning streak to three matches.
The Lions won the first set 25-20. However, the Mustangs responded with a 25-19 win on the following set. The visiting team repeated their heroics and won the third set by 25-20 again. They grabbed the victory after winning the fourth set 25-19.
Veteran outside hitter
Ray Szeto (Sutton, Ont.) proved to be the Lions' star player again with 21.5 points, including 18 kills and a service ace.
Nikola Sandic (Etobicoke, Ont.) was also instrumental to the victory, recording 48 assists as well as two kills and a service ace. Szeto and Sandic are currently second in the league's highest kills and assists, respectively.
Jules Muhawe (Orleans, Ont.) aided the defence with 10 digs.
Western's Justin Scapinello was the team's top-scorer with 21 points, including 18 kills, and added nine digs. Scapinello leads the league's top kills ahead of Szeto at first place with a total of 155. Matt Hooker recorded 39 assists, three kills and two digs.
The Lions will look to extend their winning streak next weekend when they return to the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday (Nov. 29) at 2pm to face the Queen's Gaels.
