The York University Lions women's basketball team was defeated 73-38 by the Queen's Gaels on Wednesday (Nov. 26) in Kingston, Ont.

In the first quarter,
Courtney Osbourne (Markham, Ont.) proved to be an asset as she put up eight points for the Lions. The only other Lion who scored points in the first quarter
was Ishanaa Seupersadsingh (Markham, Ont.) from two free throw shots. Unfortunately their efforts were not enough as the Gaels surpassed them with a total of 17 points, ending the first quarter 17-10.

The scoring didn't begin in the second quarter until eight minutes in, when the Gaels' Abby Dixion put up a three-point jump shot.
Nina Guzina (Etobicoke, Ont.) led the scoring for the Lions in the second quarter with a three-pointer, a jump shot and a free throw.
Taylor McAlpine (Huntsville, Ont.) and
Shauney Fischer (Wallaceburg, Ont.) were among the other two scorers for the Lions in the second quarter.

Andrea Priamo from the Gaels side did not let the Lions take the lead as she basketed four shots in the second, helping her team push forward 31-20 at the half.

The Lions trailed behind further in the third quarter, only scoring seven points.
Haley Bowie (Ancaster, Ont.) assisted with these points as she basketed a jump shot, and two free throws; Seupersadsingh and
Jackie Koudys (Smithville, Ont.) also netted a jump shot in the third.

The gap continued to widen for the Lions as the Gaels ended the third quarter 54-27.

In the fourth quarter, the Lions were able to add 11 points to the scoreboard, but it was not enough as the Gaels continued to dominate, adding 19 points to their score in the fourth to end the game with the lopsided win.

Osbourne and Guzina ended the game with the most points for the Lions with eight apiece, while Seupersadsingh finished with seven.

For Queen's, Jenny Wright led the attack with 12 points, followed by Emily Hazlett and Abby Dixon who both recorded 10.

The Lions remain winless on the year, while the Gaels are in third place in the OUA East Division with a record of 3-3.

The next game for the Lions is a home game on Saturday (Nov. 29) against the Algoma Thunderbirds at the Tait McKenzie Centre at 6pm. It will be their final contest of the fall semester before the long December break.
