The York University Lions women's hockey team was defeated 5-2 by the Windsor Lancers on Friday (Nov. 7) in Windsor, Ont.

Lisa Stathopulos (Toronto) played an outstanding game, scoring the two goals for the Lions. She has a total of five goals in the season, placing her in second place for top scorers in the OUA along with teammates
Rianna Langford (Collingwood, Ont.) and
Amy Locke (Toronto).

The Lancers opened up the scoring in the first period, at 15:33, with a goal by Candice Chevalier.

The second period demonstrated much more action than the first with a total of 19 shots. The Lancers kept their lead early in the second with a goal by Shailyn Waites at 9:11.

Only 26 seconds later,
Lindsay Brook (Ste. Rose, Man.) and Langford charged down the ice, sending the puck to Stathopulos who planted the puck at the back of the net.

At 19:40 the Lions were down one player, but that did not stop
Jenna Gray (London, Ont.) from sliding down the ice and sending the puck to Stathopulos, who smacked in a short-handed goal.

The Lions won the second period 2-1, but were tied with the Lancers going into the third.

Waites sent another goal into the net only 17 seconds into the third giving the Lancers a 3-2 lead. At 18:32 Chevalier charged York goaltender
Megan Lee (Orillia, Ont.), scoring her second goal of the contest.

Waites did not finish scoring as she blasted her third goal at 19:56, giving her a hat trick.

Lee saved a total of 29 goals while the Lancers goalie Marissa Kozovski saved 24.

The Lions are now in fifth place with a 5-4-0 record, while the Lancers moved up to first place at 6-1-1. The next game for the Lions is against the Western Mustangs on Sat (Nov. 8) in London, Ont.
