The York University Lions men's basketball team fell to the No. 3 nationally-ranked Ryerson Rams by a score of 89-51 on Wednesday (Jan. 14) at Ryerson's Coca Cola Centre.

The home team bested the Lions from the start of the match as the first quarter ended with the Rams leading at 21-12. The Rams took the lead even further at the end of the second quarter at 42-26. They showed no signs of backing down in the second half, scoring 30 points in the third quarter and only letting eight points in from the Lions to end the quarter at 72-34. Both teams scored 17 points each in the final quarter, but the Rams were the ones who took the victory.

Ryerson's Jahmal Jones scored a game-high of 19 points, making 6-of-6 in free-throws. Kadeem Green recorded 12 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

Richard Iheadindu (Brampton, Ont.) was the highest scorer for the Lions with 12 points. Additionally, Iheadindu contributed two rebounds and three steals.

The Lions' reserves contributed more points than the Rams' bench.
Gene Spagnuolo (Maple, Ont.) and
O'Neil Halstead (Toronto) both posted the same stat line with nine points, four rebounds and one assist each.

The Lions are still holding steady at second place in the OUA East standings with 10 points and a record of 5-5. They will host the third-place Queen's Gaels at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday (Jan. 17) at 8pm.
