The York University Lions women's basketball team lost to the No. 9 nationally-ranked Ryerson Rams 66-49 on Wednesday (Jan. 14) at Ryerson's Coca Cola Centre.

The first quarter started as a tight match-up that ended with the Lions trailing at 13-11. Before the half-time whistle, the Rams extended their lead as the Lions were left behind at 30-21. The Lions scored 13 points at the third quarter, but it was not enough as the Rams led by 11 points at 45-34. At the final quarter, the Lions were unable to overtake the home team who scored an additional 21 points for the win.

Courtney Osborne (Markham, Ont.) managed to record 11 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a block.
Ishanaa Seupersadsingh (Markham, Ont.) scored 13 points, 11 of them from free-throws. Stepping in from the bench,
Emma Thompson (London, Ont.) contributed five points, three rebounds, a steal and an assist.

The Rams only managed a single three-point shot from Mariah Nunes, who scored 13 points and added three rebounds and four steals. Sofia Paska scored a game-high of 14 points and contributed five rebounds, two assists, one steal and a block.

With the loss at Ryerson, the Lions now hold a record of 2-8 in the OUA East standings. They will host the Queen's Gaels at Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday (Jan. 17) at 6pm.Â
