The York University Lions women's hockey team took down the UOIT Ridgebacks 3-1 on Sunday (Jan. 18) in Oshawa, Ont., thanks to a pair of goals by
Lisa Stathopulos.

With the two goals, the fifth-year forward from Toronto remains the OUA scoring leader with 27 points, and is also first with 15 goals.

In the first period
Sarai Whitty (Kingston, Ont.) was the lone scorer with a goal at 6:51 that was assisted by
Dana Somerville (Hockley, Ont.) and
Justine Treadwell (Huntsville, Ont.).

The second period started slow, with no goals scored in the first 15 minutes. Stathopulos ended the drought with a power play goal at 16:23, assisted by
Kristen Barbara (Mount Hope, Ont.) and
Jenna Gray (London, Ont.). The Ridgebacks were unable to score any goals in the first or second period as the Lions carried a 2-0 lead.

The Ridgebacks' luck finally pushed in the third as Zoe Battie scored the opening goal of the period, changing the score to 2-1.

With less than a minute left of the final frame, and with UOIT's goalie pulled for the extra attacker, Stathopulos blasted in an empty-net goal to seal the win.

York goaltender
Megan Lee (Orillia, Ont.) saved 35 shots, while her counterpart from UOIT, Cassie Charette, stopped 31.

In addition to Stathopulos' OUA scoring mark, Barbara is also having a tremendous offensive season and leads all defenders with 14 points.

The Lions are in seventh place in the OUA standings with a record of 9-7-2, while the Ridgebacks are 11
th with a record of 5-11-1.

The next game for the Lions is a home game on Saturday (Jan. 24) against the No. 3 nationally-ranked Western Mustangs at 2pm at Canlan Ice Sports.
