The York University Lions men's volleyball team lost to the No. 1 nationally-ranked McMaster Marauders in straight sets on Friday (Jan. 23) in Hamilton, Ont.

It was a tough challenge for the Lions facing the OUA leaders, who have not lost a single match this season. However, the Lions were able to take the first set into a two-point deuce before the Marauders sealed the first set with a 27-25 win. The home team eventually won the match after winning 25-15 for the following two sets.

Rookie outside hitter
Josh Henderson (Scarborough, Ont.) led the Lions with nine kills and two blocks and ended the game with 11 points.
Nikola Sandic (Etobicoke, Ont.) made 24 assists and two digs.

Ray Szeto (Sutton, Ont.) contributed five kills, four digs, two service aces and seven points. Szeto is now second place on players with the most kills in the OUA at 196 kills.

The Marauders' Brandon Koppers made 11 kills, two service aces for 15.5 points. Austin Campion-Smith assisted 19 times.

The Lions will play the Nipissing Lakers next. The Lions won the first meeting between the two teams at Nipissing in four sets. The match will be played at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday (Jan. 24) beginning at 2pm.
