The York University Lions men's basketball team was defeated by a score of 87-75 by the Western Mustangs on Friday (Jan. 30) in London, Ont.

With the loss, the Lions hold a record of 7-7 in the OUA East standings and are currently retaining their second place spot with 14 points. The Mustangs improved to a 9-5 record and sit second in the OUA West standings with 18 points.

The Mustangs dominated the first quarter at 22-14. By halftime, the home team led 48-34. The Mustangs cruised in the third quarter by a score of 74-52. The Lions outscored the hosts in the final quarter by 10 points, but it was too late to catch up.

Greg Morrow of the Mustangs was phenomenal with 35 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and a steal. Six of his rebounds came on the offensive glass. Morrow is currently the leader at field goals made in the OUA at 115-of-214.

Nick Tufegdzich (Tecumseh, Ont.) achieved another double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds, and he remains in the top five in the OUA in scoring and rebounding as one of only two players to be averaging a double-double.

Nathan Culbreath (Kingston, Ont.) played an important role, contributing 21 points and six rebounds, and rookie guard
Gene Spagnuolo (Maple, Ont.) played 22 minutes from the bench and put up 10 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.

The Lions will be on the road in Windsor, Ont., to face the No. 5 nationally-ranked Windsor Lancers on Saturday (Jan. 31) beginning at 8pm.
