The York University Lions women's hockey team fell to the Queen's University Gaels in their second game of the season by a score of 2-1 on Saturday (Oct.10) in Kingston, Ont.
The Gaels were first to crack the scoresheet as Megan Farrell found the back of the net beating the Lions starting goaltender
Megan Lee (Orillia, Ont.) at the 9:24 mark of the opening period.
Once the Lions took to the ice for the second period of play, it didn't take them long to even the game up.
Stephanie Dovaston (Unionville, Ont.) needed 20 seconds to find the back of the net as she beat Caitlyn Lahonen for her second goal of the season.
Soon after the equalizer, the Gaels were able to respond with goal of their own, as Nadia Larocca broke away with Kyla Crouse on a two-on-one, which led to Larocca being a fed a pass from Crouse that she tapped past the goal line.
The Lions offense fired 13 pucks on net in the second frame but could only manage to beat Lahonen. The score going into the third, 2-1 Gaels.
In the final period the Gaels defense locked down the Lions attack and limited their offense to only six shots. The defensive effort shown by the Gales proved to be too much as they came away with a 2-1 victory on home ice. Lee finished the night stopping 30 of 32 shots in the loss.
The Lions are back on the ice Friday (Oct. 16) when they welcome the Nipissing Lakers at 7pm at Canlan Ice Sports for their home opener.
