LIONS OFF TO OTTAWA FOR GAME AGAINST RAVENS

The York University Lions football team will travel to Ottawa on Friday (Oct. 9) to face the Carleton Ravens in its final road game of the regular season.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm at MNP Park. The game can also be seen live online on OUA.tv.

Both teams are coming off contests against their city rivals. The Lions were defeated by the Toronto Varsity Blues by a score of 40-3 under the lights at York Stadium last Friday night, while the Ravens won a 48-45 thriller in double overtime over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday.

The Lions are 1-5 on the season, with the highlight coming in Week 4 thanks to a 23-14 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on the road in Waterloo, Ont. Their other road games have seen them face two of the top teams in the OUA in the Western Mustangs, ranked No. 3 nationally, and the No. 5 McMaster Marauders.

The Ravens will need to regroup quickly after Saturday's exciting finish in the Panda Game. The contest featured six lead changes in regulation and saw the Ravens come back from nine down late in the third quarter and tie it with 4:23 left in the game, ultimately scoring a touchdown and a field goal in overtime to win their second straight over their city rivals.

Overall, the squad is experiencing its best season since rejoining the OUA three years ago, putting together a 4-2 record that has the Ravens in fourth place in the conference standings.

York and Carleton did not face each other in the regular season last year, although they did have a pre-season meeting that resulted in a 53-11 Ravens win.

The Lions have had different rookies step up and make an impact in each game this season, and last week it was linebacker Jakob Butler (Sherwood Park, Alta.) who had his turn. He led all players with 10.5 tackles and is tied for fifth in the OUA with 6.3 tackles per game.

Quarterback Brett Hunchak (Calgary) is completing 48.9% of his passes (46 of 94) for 571 yards, and has thrown two touchdowns and six interceptions. Jesse Amankwaa (Etobicoke, Ont.) remains the leading rusher with 437 yards and two touchdowns.

Ravens kicker Michael Domagala has had a tremendous season and currently leads the OUA with 13 field goals, including four last week against Ottawa that earned him the OUA special teams player of the week award for the second time this season.

On offence, the Ravens have been led by quarterback Jesse Mills, who has completed 120 of 187 passes (64.2%) for 1510 yards, with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. On defence their best player has been Leon Cenerini with 36 total tackles as well as one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

After Friday, the Lions have one game remaining on the schedule against the Queen's Gaels the following Saturday (Oct. 17) at York Stadium, beginning at 1pm.
