The York University Lions women's volleyball team fell by a score of 3-1 to the visiting Guelph Gryphons in their match at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 15).

The first set saw the Lions trailing closely behind Guelph early, but thanks to kills from Victoria Golebiowski and Becky Breau, the Gryphons separated their team from the Lions and they ended up taking the set easily, 25-11.

The second set was a nail-biting one as the teams were point for point. However, with a critical kill from
Kayla Clennon (Stouffville, Ont.) and an error by the Gryphons, the Lions were able to win the set with a 25-22 score.

In the third the Gryphons came out on the front foot and ended gaining an early lead. The Lions had a hard time catching up, and the Gryphons won the set 25-13.

The Gryphons carried their momentum into the final set and were able to up the score to 17-9 midway through the action. Although the Lions were able to come back and earn 19 points, Nicole Collard's game-point kill secured her team the 25-19 victory they needed to win the match in four sets.

Clennon led in points for the Lions with 11, all on kills, and also added nine digs.
Kirsten Dillon (Surrey, B.C) and
Mimi Demski (Etobicoke, Ont.) split the setting duties and had 16 and 17 assists, respectively, and
Carley Flemmer (Delta, B.C.) and
Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.) had 15 digs each.

Up next for the Lions is an away game that will be played on Friday (Nov. 20) against the Ryerson Rams at 6pm.
