The York University Lions men's volleyball team was blanked 3-0 by the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night (Nov. 27) at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre in Guelph, Ont.

The Gryphons started the match off strong with a 25-16 win in the first set. The game point was given to Guelph thanks to the efforts from Luke Woud and Conan Mickey, who were able the get above the net and block
Tyler Covach's (Kitchener, Ont.) spike.

The second set was a more competitive contest with the Lions forcing the Gryphons to take the set with a 32-30 score. Kills from
Nicolas Pirnat (Ottawa) and
Arthur Szwarc (Toronto) in the later parts of the set kept the Lions alive, but a kill from Josh Greene finalized the win to round out the set.

Continuing into the third with momentum, the Gryphons were able to finish with a 25-15 victory with a block from Kendrick Kerr and end the game with the win.

Covach, Pirnat, and Szwarc ended the game with the most points for the Lions. Covach and Pirnat had nine kills each and Szwarc had eight kills and five blocks.
Logan Mend (Naramata, B.C.) finished with 19 assists, and
Davis Gordon (Markham, Ont.) had 10.

With the loss the Lions fell to 5-6 on the season, while the Gryphons are now 3-6.

On Sunday (Nov. 29) the Lions will be gearing up to take on the Nipissing Lakers at the Tait McKenzie Centre. Tip off will be at 4pm in the final contest of 2015 for both teams.
