The York University Lions women's hockey team posted a 3-1 victory over the No. 10 nationally-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues in their last game of the season on Friday (Feb. 13) in Toronto.

The Blues took the lead in the first period with a smashing shot at 14:28 from Kristi Riseley. Blues goalie Katey Teekasingh did not allow the puck to slip by her during the first as she saved eight shots, while Lions goalie
Megan Lee (Orillia, Ont.) also saved eight shots in the first.

Toronto's 1-0 lead lasted until the middle of the second period, when the Lions were finally able to sneak a goal past Teekasingh as
Amy Locke (Toronto) and
Kristen Barbara (Mount Hope, Ont.) assisted graduating senior
Lisa Stathopulos (Toronto) with a powerful goal at 10:36, tying the game 1-1.

Lee vigorously protected the net as she saved 10 shots and did not allow a goal in the period. Teekasingh saved a total of six shots in the second.

With the start of the third period, Barbara hounded in a power play goal at 1:46 with the help of Stathopulos and
Jessa McAuliffe (Odessa, Ont.), putting the Lions in the lead 2-1.

Less than one minute later, Barbara tucked in another goal for her third point of the night and a 3-1 lead the Lions would not relinquish.

Lee saved an overall total of 35 shots this game, while Teekasingh made 22 saves.

The Lions finish their season in 10
th in the OUA standings with 25 points and a record of 11-10-3. The Blues finish in third with 35 points and a record of 16-5-3, and will be moving forward to playoffs, which begin next week. The Lions had already been eliminated from the post-season with Thursday's loss to the Ryerson Rams.
