The York University Lions men's basketball team ended their regular season with an 81-72 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Wednesday (Feb. 18) at the Goldring Centre in Toronto.

It was a narrow result in the first quarter as the Lions lead 17-13. The deadlock continued before halftime at 34-31. At the third quarter, the Lions extended the gap at 55-48. Both teams played a thrilling final quarter as the Lions outscored the hosts 26-24 for the victory.

Nathan Culbreath (Kingston, Ont.) was in fiery form as the second-year guard scored a career-high of 36 points in addition to his seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Lions veteran captain

O'Neil Halstead (Toronto) came off the bench and contributed eight points, two assists, two steals and a rebound.

The Blues Manny Sahota recorded 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block. Denis Ankrah made 13 points, eight rebounds and a block. Devin Johnson contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Lions concluded their 2014-15 regular season with a second-place finish and a record of 10-9 in the OUA East standings, thus qualifying for the playoffs. The Blues have one game left in the season with a current record of 5-13 as they attempt to finish in third place with the final playoff spot.Â
