The York University Lions women's basketball team narrowly lost 55-46 to the Toronto Varsity Blues in the final game of the season on Wednesday (Feb. 18) at the Goldring Centre in Toronto.

Both teams started the game with intensity as the Blues ended the first quarter with a slight lead of 10-9. The Blues extended their lead by halftime at 23-18. At the third quarter, the home team scored 17 points to dominate their rivals 40-26. The Lions outscored the Blues in the final quarter, but it was not enough to win the game.

Ishanaa Seupersadsingh (Markham, Ont.) achieved a double-double with a game-high of 17 points and 10 rebounds and added four steals and three assists.
Courtney Osborne (Markham, Ont.) contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, one block and an assist.

The Blues' Jill Stratton recorded 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal. She moved ahead of Alaine Hutton to become the Varsity Blues' all-time career leading scorer. Alanna Garner made nine points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

This concludes the Lions 2014-15 season with the team failing to qualify for the playoffs. The Lions finished the regular season at the bottom of the OUA East standings with a record of 2-17. The Blues improved to a record of 10-8 with one game left in their season as they clinched a playoff spot.Â
